Ellen and Scott Phelps performed in a truly stellar production of “Misery” earlier this year, with its signature unnerving and disturbing scenes while adding their personal touches of humor to a classic theatre piece.
Citadel’s professional actors’ live theater productions present dramas, comedies, cutting edge new works, contemporary and classical shows. Ticket prices are around $50, with an annual subscription available for four (4) productions for $140.00. Subscriptions are now on sale for the 2026-2027 season.
Citadel Theater hosts numerous family-friendly events and activities, including summer outdoor theater for young audiences. It produces special holiday shows and hosts special entertainment events throughout the year.
Citadel’s Upcoming Event
Citadel’s upcoming event is a fun “Mama Mia Sing-a-Long” which will be held at the Gloria Dei Center,
700 E. Westleigh Rd. in Lake Forest, Illinois. This outdoor performance will be held July 24 and 26 at 6pm each night. Please bring chairs, a picnic and your voice to enjoy singing popular ABBA songs.

Citadel Youth Classes
Citadel also conducts youth classes, taught by professional actors and educators. Classes are held throughout the year in addition to wonderful summer youth classes. These classes teach advanced acting skills, which also enhance the students’ everyday life skills, self-confidence, public speaking and problem-solving skills, emphasizing growth and education. Tuition for classes depends on class length. Financial assistance is available for qualified students.

Citadel Annual Gala
Citadel will host its annual gala fundraiser on September 26, 2026.
It will feature The Gentlemen of Leisure Band at the renowned estate of Nancy and Adrian Smith, 830 N. Green Bay Road in Lake Forest, Il. The exquisite home was designed by architect David Adler and was built in 1930.
