Autumnal Lark

You won’t want to miss the International Chamber Artists’ breathtaking Sunday program! “Autumnal Lark” showcases music’s power to add new layers to how we experience art and nature.

Jay Ungar’s moving Ashokan Farewell – heard in Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary – reflects his time at a summer camp in the Catskills. Charles Rochester Young’s Song of the Lark, shaped by accessible melodies, evokes its namesake painting’s placid atmosphere.

Probono, inspired by a Debussy sonata, is described by Haitian American composer Sydney Guillaume as “whimsical and freeing.” Uruguayan American composer Miguel del Águila’s contemplative Herbsttag draws on Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem of the same name, reflecting on the passing of time and meaning of existence.

The concert concludes with the exquisite melodies of Austrian composer Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet in B-flat Major, a true hidden gem that bridges classical and Romantic styles.
