Art Impact Project is non-profit organization established in 2014 with the purpose of using the power and benefits of art- making to help adolescents in drug recovery based on the founder’s experience with her then teenage son in treatment. Today the oranization’s mission remains the same: to enhance emotional wellness through creative expression. And since its inception in 2014, Art Impact Project has expanded their scope, partnering with multiple adolescent and adult groups throughout Lake County. Their commitment extends especially to historically marginalized and underserved populations, as well as individuals who have faced mental health struggles: Students in after-school programs and school wellness curriculums who face the ever-evolving challenges facing adolescents. Residents at housing shelters. Incarcerated individuals and those in half-way houses upon their release from jail. Senior citizens. Military veterans. Community groups dealing with trauma and recovery.
Art Impact Project’s specially-designed programming, led by informed and compassionate volunteer “Art Advocates”, offers inventive, self-reflective art projects. We believe creativity enhances problem solving skills, helping participants discover non-harmful ways of facing adversity. We see that the cathartic process of making and sharing art in a small group setting empowers self-expression and builds understanding and respect within the community.
